The Smart Factory Developed by Konecranes, Fastems and Danfoss in the InDEx Program Was Selected for the Data Economy’s Most Interesting List
Sitra’s Most Interesting Data Economy Solutions in Finland list presents the most innovative data-driven solutions. The list also includes the Smart Factory developed by Konecranes, Fastems and Danfoss in the InDEx (Industrial Data Excellence) program.
The jury justified the choice as follows: “There are basic problems in the new data economy that need to be solved. One of them is the cost-effective sharing of data between different organizations. In an industrial context, it is amazingly difficult to share data between operators. That’s why it’s interesting in every way that it was successful.”
In the Smart Factory experiment, industrial companies connected their operations to the same platform and exchanged data using the European IDS platform. At the Konecranes factory, its cranes, the light treatment machine supplied by Danfoss and the Fastems control system communicated with each other and operated based on the information they received from production. In addition to companies, VTT, Aalto University, University of Helsinki and University of Turku participated in the development of the Smart Factory. It was part of the InDEx (Industrial Data Excellence) program funded by the DIMECC and Business Finland, which sought to find solutions and open new opportunities for sharing and utilizing industrial data in Finnish industry.
More information about Smart Factory can be found in the final report of the InDEx program.
